Experience and a strategic approach to interactive problem solving.
As a musician and NYU film student, I was drawn into interactive media by the big Silicon Alley parties during the dot-com boom.
I've designed and built websites, with a primary focus on front-end HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and PHP/MySQL.
Lead an agile agency team. Produced many client sites.
Founded or worked with startups - including a Matter incubator company. Performed lots and lots of experiments.
UBS Bank, Soros Foundation, United Nations Development Progam, World Connect, The Fund for Public Health NY, MSNBC, Broadway Shows, Fuji Film, US Navy, Absolut Vodka, Marvel Comics, Columbia University, The Broadway League (IBDB.com), Huntington Learning Centers, Langensheidt Publishing Group, Central Restaurant Products, Merchant Ivory Productions, Kino Lorber Film, and many more...
Oil & Gas Explorer: A prototype for UBS Bank. Completely data-driven and interactive data visualization. (Check it out!)
Connu: Author-recommended short fiction for mobile devices. (A Matter startup)
Tidbt (Closed Beta): A social news sharing network.
Sweetessa: An online boutique for confectionery gifts using a dropship model (2010 to 2013)
LA Happenings: An early twitter experiment focused on event listings in LA.
Facts on File: A band is kind of like a startup, right?
I've put together a couple of slides to give you an idea as to how I approach my projects.
I like to start with the fast prototypes and focus on the important things. If you start with development, it's harder to change course later.
Connu began with a sketch on paper. Through user feedback and rapid prototyping, it became a nice, functional, and immersive app.
Don't paint yourself into a corner. It's not about what you can build, it's about what you should build.
Wrddit began as a complicated web portal concept, but made more sense as a mobile app. (In closed beta, but coming soon.)
I like to break down a project to core milestones, launch in phases, avoid scope creep, and keep up the momentum with my teams.
No matter how beautiful the design, how scalable the product, or how well-built your machine, there will always be ways to improve. If there's one thing that I've learned in 12+ years of interactive media, it's that nothing is permanent. I've always been ready to learn new things and be scrappy.
